Special projects
Tuxedo Industrial Park
A good example of our innovative nature, this facility houses small business contractors and was the area’s first condominium warehouse facility. Built entirely of concrete, the project was sold out, built, and occupied within18 months.
The shells of the warehouses are virtually maintenance free.
Storm Water Sistems
DICO has the experience and the equipment to cast large monolithic concrete tructures on site. This tank can hold more than175,000 cubic feet of water. It measures 32 feet wide, 17 feet tall and 300 feet long.
Designed in-house and built in 2001, it is currently the largest on-site water
retention facility in the DELMARVA area. It has been recognized by the State
of Maryland as a future solution to on-site retention of storm water.
Bids on site work and special drainage projects are available by request.
Earth Sheltered Homes
Nestled into a hillside in a rural Maryland area, this earth-covered home has only a thin skin of traditional materials. Made entirely of concrete, the structure was placed in a single pour lasting 12 hours, it is monolithic.
The roof was designed to support 2 feet of earth. There are skylights at the rear of the house to allow light and solar energy in. The structure is so energy efficient it consumes one fifth the energy required to heat and cool a conventional home of comparable size. This type of home is highly energy efficient while keeping a balanced temperature.
Earth Sheltered Homes
After DICO’s pioneering project in 1984, a movement was started toward “Green Homes”. Some of the earliest homes, such as those of the ancient Pueblo people of the American Southwest, feature very efficient green designs and techniques that were later incorporated in homes built by famous architects.
Thirty five years after completion, the house is absolutely water tight and practically maintenance free, consumes one fifth the energy of a regular home of the same size.
DICO strives for durability, energy efficiency and low or zero maintenance
